I am going through some hard times. Some sad times. My mother pa**ed away last Christmas . . . and I felt so devistated and all alone. I needed a friend. I turned to your music, which has always been there for me. Just like an old friend. I believe with all my heart and soul that God lead me to eBay, where I found a guitar that you had autographed being offered. I cannot usually afford such things, but something deep inside of me told me to get it, keep it near and dear, and let it be a reminder of HIS love for me. I think you and Al would be proud. I am going to put one of those little fishes with the strange letters on it (smile). I cannot play the guitar, but it will always be there for me. A constant reminded of our lord and savior, Jesus Christ . . . and all the blessings that have been bestowed upon me in my life. One is your music, Richie. I want to say thank you. A quiet thank you. A heartfelt thank you. You have been a good friend to me these many years. Your music has touched me. Comforted me. You can hear God in your voice . . . and that is an incredible gift. I have always been a fan of your music. It is the base of my favorite genre of music , country rock. I was moved by how joyful you appear to be. The joy that I can only a**ume comes from the peace you have found in your soul. I don't envy much in life but I found myself wishing to be as happy as you seem to be. The next day Friday the 17th, I met with a couple of ladies that I had met during my last visit to Austin. We spent the day running around Austin from venue to venue. As commonly happens, one of the ladies had to much to drink. We had to take her back to her friend's condo. She began to relate some stories of her past. The stories were sad and tragic and it was obvious she is still haunted by her past. After her boyfriend got off work he came by and picked her up, her friend Cari and I had gotten into a conversation about her recent involvement in a Church and how she felt her life was going through a change for the positive. She related to me how good she felt about herself for the first time in years! She hoped her friend would soon join her at a service. I left her condo about 2am but on the way back to my hotel and all that night and the next day I was moved by Cari's story of her rediscovery of Jesus. She called me the next day and asked me to lunch. I told her how moved I was about her awaking. She expressed relief because she was afraid I would reject her as a "weirdo". It was the first time she had opened up to someone not involved in her Church. We spent a great afternoon together talking about a wide variety of subjects. I told her about your show and how joyful you seemed. The next day Sunday I was flying back to Rhode Island. I spent the day in airports with a lot of time to reflect. I had been raised a Irish Catholic in Boston. I had raised my children as Catholics. But in the last few years it gave me no sense of value. I felt that most of the people at Ma** were there to forfill an obligation. There was no sense of brotherhood and little sense that God was actually there. I was also have a real problem with the hypocrasy of the Church's hierachy. I decided to attend a service at a different Church. I was moved by the pastor's sermon. Appropriately enough the message of the day revolved around John 3:16 and being reborn in Christ. The service was beautiful. I was moved to tears. After they had a reception in the meeting room where I learned much about the congregation and those in it. Many of the folks had come to the Church by way of other religions. The message was The Church wasn't going to tell you how to worship but help you find your own way to God! I thought how wonderful! I apologize for being so long winded but I wanted to relate my story to you and thank you for the inspiration to start my own journey to Christ. I have already thanked Cari.
