(1974) In 1973, the SHF Band was formed upon the request of David Geffen, who was the head of Asylum Records at the time. Chris Hillman, J.D. Souther, and Richie Furay made up the core singer-songwriters of the super group. Through connections with Hillman, from the group Manassas, pianist Paul Harris, percussionist Joe Lala, and pedal steel guitarist Al Perkins joined SHF. The group’s final member was drummer Jim Gordon. The first album had a significant hit with Furay’s “Fallin’ in Love.” The song went to #27 in the U.S. The album also included “Believe Me,” a song that Richie had already recorded with Poco. Hillman and Souther both contribute excellent material and the musicians take country-rock yet to another level. A very strong debut for the super-group.

FALLIN’ IN LOVE
Written by: Richie Furay
Here I go again it’s all right
Full moon’s grown to brighten the night
I been lookin’ there seein’ the light
It sure is shinin’ bright
Honey, believe in it, it being free
Nothin’ to love’s light nothin’ to be
You got once a lifetime to see
Just how much of your dream
Just let me feel like Fallin’ In Love,
Don’t you know what it feels like Fallin’ In Love
Just let me feel like, (I’m) Fallin’ In Love
Turnin’ home runnin’ free as the wind
Strechin’ my stride, wanna see you again
When it’s time to be taken in
Let me know where I’ve been
BELIEVE ME
Written by: Richie Furay
There ain’t nothing’ at all like the way I feel tonight
The love of my lady, makes it all right – her love light
Is shinin’ on in the mornin’, the glow is understood
It’s been a long time, feelin’ this good – I thought nobody could
Believe Me, I know
Let your love show, let yourself go
Believe Me
Words of the sweetest love songs are yours and mine to share
The saddest of all you know, is when nobody cares -
Blind eyes that stare
Thinkin’ of love, sweet love or maybe days gone by
But I’ve got my warmest dream your star in the sky,
A light to shine by
Let your love show, let yourself go
Believe Me
There ain’t nothing’ at all like the way I feel tonight
It’s been a long time, feelin’ this good – I thought nobody could
Believe Me, I know
Let your love show, let yourself go
Let your love show, let yourself go
Let your love show, let yourself go
Believe Me
THE FLIGHT OF THE DOVE
Written by: Richie Furay
If I say to you, I just can’t get through
Apathy, it’s killin’ me
First it comes and goes, but then just grows and grows
I’m finding out I got a heart in doubt
Must it be a trend, do you find it hard to bend
Been seein’ it come – think I’ll get on the run
‘Cause one thing is for sure, changes do occur
And what with blind man’s bluff, well I got me enough
Lovin’ something, feelin’ nothin’
Ain’t no way to go; you just never know
Who you love, you’re thinkin’ of
Put nothin’ above – The Flight Of The Dove
She’ll be long gone – long gone
She’s got a reason to fly like a star in the sky
Can’t you hear her now cryin’ – good-by
She ain’t a woman to lie; is that a tear in your eye
If it’s harder now than it was then how
Can it be – I can’t wait, you see
Once upon a time learning paid the fine
You can scream and yell, but some you can’t tell
Lovin’ something, feelin’ nothin’
Ain’t no way to go; you just never know
Who you love, you’re thinkin’ of
Put nothin’ above – The Flight Of The Dove
